Use of the mobile web is exploding at an incredible rate. More than a quarter of a billion web-capable phones and tablets are being shipped annually. Within a few years, most sites will have at least as many accesses from mobile devices as from desktop and notebook computers.
Deciding how to best take advantage of mobile devices can be difficult. Not only can it be daunting trying to figure out how to fit everything on a tiny screen, but you need to choose between mobile websites, HTML5 web apps, and native apps.
By the end of this course, you'll understand when to simply build a mobile website, when an app makes sense, and when going native is worthwhile. You'll know how to approach user interface design and content structure for mobile devices, how to give tablet users a great experience, and what frameworks like jQuery Mobile can do for you.
When you sign up for the full course package, you'll get access to the Course Portal, with all four hours of lessons for each of the three courses: 12 hours total. You can watch the recordings at your own pace, and download the slides and sample code files so you can follow along.
You'll also be invited to join an online group, where the instructors will answer questions.
This course is for designers and developers who are comfortable with at least the basics of the "old" web (i.e., sites designed for big screens), and want to get up to speed on designing for mobile devices, including phones and tablets.
Attendees should understand basic HTML and CSS.
“Webvanta‘s online HTML5/CSS3 course gave a practical look into the current markup languages that was essential to me as a web designer. They gave instruction with application in mind, rather than spending time on general theory, which I appreciated.”
— Alexa Chipman

“The Design for the Mobile Web course was excellent. The clear and concise examples showed how, why and when to build web apps versus a fully native app, how to structure user interfaces for different devices, and how
to optimize the app to target devices.”
— Dave Corbin
“These courses helped to focus my attention on those areas I want to learn more about, and those I don't ... which is just as important! The combination of live instruction, slides, and recorded archives with sample files made for a comprehensive course that is typical of Webvanta's thorough and quality approach to everything they do.”
— Dan Gilbert
